
Student Office Assistant (SOA)

SOAs are the front line of our office! SOAs regularly support LSS staff and tutors in administrative tasks and staff our front desk.
Pay rate: Starts at $20/hr
Hours: 8–13 hrs per week depending on the number of shifts worked
Position duration: Positions are for the full academic year (September to June) with an opportunity to work limited hours over the Summer. SOAs not graduating may be extended. SOAs often work anywhere from 1 to 3 years with our office. These positions are hired once per year during spring/summer.
Modality: All shifts will be in person during business hours Monday–Friday 9 a.m–6 p.m., with reduced hours on Sundays (10 a.m.–12 noon). Shifts are typically 3 hours long, with Sundays being 2 hours.
Location: SOAs are responsible for maintaining and welcoming students into LSS spaces in the ARCenter, STEM Hub (Science and Engineering Library), and Oakes Learning Center (OLC).

Expectations
- Hold a TERM GPA of at least a 2.70
- Attend an in person 1-hour weekly team meeting
- Attend at least 2 tabling outreach events for LSS each quarter
- Work individually and collaboratively with LSS Professional Staff and LSS Student Staff (other SOAs & Tutors) on a regular basis
- Assist students with accessing LSS services, navigating LSS spaces, and identifying appropriate campus resources
- Assist LSS Staff with scheduling, preparing for events, and regular administrative tasks
- Administrative tasks include: filing, data entering, answering phone calls, email communication, hosting the LSS front desk via Zoom and in-person, posting on LSS social media
- Maintain LSS tutor spaces across campus
Preferred skills
- Knowledge of Google Suite (ex. Sheets, Docs), Zoom, Slack, and Canva
- Strong written and verbal communication, organization, and ability to manage tasks
- Leadership and critical thinking skills to lead projects & make informed decisions
- Desire to make LSS services accessible to all students and a general understanding of campus resources to make referrals
