
Peer Success Coach (PSC)

Coaches host workshops and facilitate individual coaching sessions centered around building strong academic skills to be successful at UCSC.
Pay rate: Starts at $18/hr
Hours: 8-12 hrs per week
Position duration: Positions are for the full academic year (September to June). PSCs not graduating may be extended. These positions are hired once per year during spring/summer.
Modality: All coaching sessions are held in person. Workshops will be held in mixed modalities with some hosted in person and some hosted on Zoom.
Location: Workshops and coaching sessions are typically held in LSS spaces at the ARCenter and STEM Hub (Science and Engineering Library).

Expectations
- Hold a term GPA of at least a 3.00
- Attend an in person 1-hour biweekly team meeting
- Attend 1-2 tabling outreach events for LSS each quarter
- Facilitate 1 hr individual coaching sessions on a weekly basis
- Develop individualized success plans for students in coaching sessions that address topics like time management, study habits, etc.
- Schedule, advertise, and facilitate collaborative Successful Slug Workshops
- Refer students to campus resources as needed
- Be open to actively learning and incorporating coaching frameworks and reflective practices
Preferred skills
- Strong written and verbal communication, organization, and ability to manage tasks
- High understanding of effective academic skills, strategies, and study habits
- Desire to make LSS services accessible to all students and a general understanding of campus resources to make referrals
- Leadership and critical thinking skills to lead projects & make informed decisions
